It's not entirely clear to me, but I think you are
saying that the seam between the screen bezel and the
top lid are separating slightly and the looseness is
most apparent at the bottom/rear where the cylindrical
hinge covers are? I had this on my used 2300c and it
occurred because the screws which attach the bezel to
the top lid, which are underneath the cosmetic square
covers at the bottom of the bezel, were loose. In my
case they could not be tightened because the metal
retainers they screw into on the top lid were broken
free of their plastic surrounds.

This problem seems not uncommon on 2300s and may have
been caused by overtorqueing during manufacture or
prior servicing, resulting in undue stress on the
plastic. If this is your problem, the repair is not
difficult, although in the worst case you may need to
scavange or procure a replacement top lid, which is
the same part for all color Duos.

When you get your service manual you'll see how to
remove the top lid from the bezel. Carefully pry up
the screw covers with the tip of an X-acto blade--
you'll want to try to reuse these as they're hard to
find,, although without them the Duo merely looks more
"industrial." Remove the two screws. If the retainers
are in fact broken loose, this may be difficult as the
surrounds may have crumbled entirely and there is
nothing to gain purchase against. OTOH, if the
retainers are loose, you don't need to remove the
screws. The top lid then slides upward on the bezel,
then lifts off. Little pieces of the screw surrounds
may fall out. You can then see the condition of the
surrounds and decide whether there's enough plastic
left to try epoxying the screw retainers in place
(they're easily undone from the screws with the lid
off), or whether you need a replacement lid.

As it happens, among my stash of parts that I will
very soon be parting with is a pristine, new service
part top lid for a color Duo. I may even have a couple
of spare screw covers. If you need to, contact me
off-list and I'll try to give you a reasonable deal.
