I'd like to thank everyone for their comments and suggestions.  I was 
especially tempted by the idea of getting an older 15" LCD display, but 
time pressures and reason prevailed.  (I have a resolution, often broken, 
not to invest any more $ in the Duo -- put it towards a new computer and 
conversion to firewire devices instead.)  I did quickly find a cheap 
Apple 14" display.  So I have my SCSI chain back.  In the interim, I was 
able to increase my adeptness with a trackpad and keyboard commands 
somewhat, but am still happy to have the mouse back too.

However, with the new knowledge about options...
