The hiccup in the spooling is probably because the driver never really found
the port, which is also evidenced by your problem in Chooser. Unless the
problem is with the driver (such as it being mismatched for your OS version
and/or for that printer), you may want to look at all the things that impact
the port's settings. That includes any software for the internal modem as
well as the external one (and the network settings). Also, I think Epson
has its own background printer utility -- you might want to check that it
has enough of a memory partition.
Sorry if this all sounds vague, but without seeing precisely what's going
on, the best I can manage is to give you ideas of what to look at...
