It is mentioned here and there around Apple's TIL.  It seems that when the
magnesium frame gets bent, it causes a short between the ground and another
metal point (perhaps in the battery compartment?) which causes the power
manager to break.  The result is the Duo thinks there is no battery inserted
at all and you can't startup with the battery only.
