Yikes, Illene, if you don't know what a multimeter is--you will have
zero chance of replacing this fuse. It's a meter for measuring
resistance, voltage, amperage, etc. Between 5$ to 1000$ depending on
the model. A 5$ variety is what needed here.
Here is where the fuse located:

It's a tiny thing, a bout the size of a grain of rice. It's soldered
onto the board there right behind the battery terminals. It's also
surrounded by rather tall components like capacitors and inductors and
the structure of the pb.
I replaced it by touch soldering some leads onto the terminals of the
old fuse and then touch solder a new fuse onto those lead. Not for the
faint of heart. I was willing to do this because I don't want to invest
in any more money on this machine, so it's either using it without out
battery or else...Not only that, I still do not know why the fuse is
blown. It could be that it's old and about to go anyway, but it could
also be some other problem that caused it. Only time will tell now.
I'm not sure I would recommend this procedure for anyone elsoe to do.
You have to be very comfortable with wielding a soldering iron.
However, it is a good thing to verify that the fuse is indeed broken,
IMO, by using a...multimeter to check if the fuse is blown.
As someone suggested, DT&T will do this particular repair for $150.
Oh, my PRAM battery came back to life too. Although this happens a day
or two before the "repair." I unplugged it completely overnight and put
it back on in the morning, and it just came back. This requires partial
dissassembly of the machine.
Hope this helps.
