Yeah, it was just below the screen but inside the case, just to the left of
center. Since the new 'book is made in a way that allows the sleep light
and the apple logo to glow through, that's what the fire did. At first I
thought it was some kind of indicator light, and was heartened that maybe
it was showing some sign of life! LOL I can't remember exactly how it was
with the screen (was only a few seconds), but I saw it flare up through the
screen I think, and then a little smoke was coming out the space between
the screen and the case.
The battery seemed fine, and it wasn't even enough of a fire to melt the
case on the outside where the fire was (Was far from the battery). I have a
theory about what happened, but basically no knowledge about computer
hardware, so bear with me if this turns out to be a load of bull. ;-) I
think there was some kind of bad/loose connection that kept the screen from
lighting up, and since I kept restarting over and over the place that
failed got hotter and hotter. Eventually it was enough to flame up, even on
battery power.
Anyway, it will be interesting to see if this turns out to be a common
problem. (And by "interesting" I mean hellaciously nerve-wracking if it
does happen a lot!! Gimme a GLOD any day!!)
I seem to be a GLOD magnet, so will let you guys know if I get one of those
on the replacement. ;-)
