Dan, I have this problem with one of my 280 screens, also.  I dont 
think its the backlight tube, as the one in my problem screen is 
still plenty bright.  My next move is to swap out the inverter board 
from a screen that doesnt have this problem and see if that fixes it.

I cant think of a reason it would be something other than the screen.

This isnt normal, but several people have noticed this on a few screens.
