Over time I've rebuilt two Type-1 batteries. They are very simple
inside - made up of 10 AA cells. I found cheap replacement cells with
solder tags at a local electronics shop. On the suggestion of someone I this
list, I opened the batteries by gently bashing the edges of the battery
with a small hammer to break up the glue holding the two halves together.
You have to go slowly, working your way around the edge.
The first battery ended up looking pretty beat up (but works fine) - the
second battery came out of the process looking much better, because I knew
what I was doing by then :-)
