 in fact it replaces the original driver but can also reside in your 
extensions folder together with the original driver. It only serves to 
recognize drives of a make not licensed by Apple (and thus not included 
in their driver), for this purpose it has served me well. But it makes no 
difference with the problem of booting from a systemCD - here the most 
reliable procedure is to use the keyboard combo cmd-opt-shift-del at 
startup.
