With the exception of a company's official tech support list, I've always considering mailing lists like this as more of a way of people with at least one common interest to meet and talk. While it's true that most of the conversation should focus on the topic, I think it's perfectly fine for other topics that the members share interest in to be discussed. We're more than a bunch of Macintoshies, we're also people who have lots of other interests and I see no problem with them being discussed here as long as they don't take over the list (and this topic has been marked not only OT, but "Win Laptop", so you have two ways of filtering it if you don't want it.).
