If you work in a professional IT environment and have >done any hard RFP comparisons I'd love to hear your findings. Well Ralph I fall into the latter category. I have also been very very busy the past week and have not been reading the list daily... in fact some days my 2400c has not even been turned on and on the wire (gasp!), so I apologize if this is late. I used to manage IT for a medium sized company with offices all over the world, and when the PowerBook 5300 and 7.5.2 converted people en masse to Windows I had a very intense training on the qualities and drawbacks about a *lot* of different Wintel laptops. I *hated* the Toshibas. They always had serious reliability problems and would break at the drop of a hat. I had one executive that I swear broke hers over and over by beating on the keyboard too hard. The CD ROM drives were very prone to failure and I wish I had $500 for every keyboard I replaced. I could retire now. Despite all this everybody wanted the Tosh's real bad... most likely due to all the good press they get everywhere... go figure. The NEC ones I dealt with were actually pretty nice. The Sony's were excellent, though a tad tempremental... they would decide not to boot at the most inconvenient times. Plus they are covered with tiny parts that seem to fall off and get lost. The hands-down always best IMHO are the IBM ThinkPads. They are damn near bulletproof. Very rugged. My only complaint about them is the 'nipple' mouse and the flaky 'clickers'... (heh... ironic eh? Wasn't the 2400c originally an IBM design? It too has a flawed clicker.) But for overall durability they beat the rest by a far margin. hth --chuck goolsbee geek wrangler, digital.forest inc, bothell, wa <http://www.forest.net> list mom, mac-mgrs mailing list... <http://www.mac-mgrs.org> ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
