Well, it just depends on how much you like your comet. I really like mine,
so I'm trying to maintain it, and upgrade it. In all honesty, I have
probably spent just about, if not more, than I would have spent buying a new
laptop, so far - and I'm not done upgrading it yet! Some people may even
think I am foolish, ah well. =)

As far as your wishlist:
1.) I'm running OS 9.1 on it just fine (although 8.6 has a smaller memory
footprint so you need less RAM.) I have OS X, but I have not tried
installing it because I fear it will run out of memory. =P I only have
112MB in my comet (and that's the most you can have in it.)
2.) The most you can have in there is 112MB (if you manage to get a 96MB RAM
module from Bill Fox (~ $400)
3.) I have a 30GB drive in my comet, which is running great... if only the
48GB ones weren't so expensive =(
4.) I use a 3Com CXM556 w/xjack (no dongles) PCIMCA modem.

Present Config:
2400c/G3/240, 112MB ram, 30GB HD, OS 9.1, Skyline wireless PCIMCA card.
