Sam, Inquiring minds need to know, first off did you first get a happy mac, starting up screen and then the sad mac tones? (which may indicate a system curruption - a exception error where your machine is unable to load all the system code into memory, try booting from a floppy before jumping to hardware concussions), or if sad mac face appeared first it probably indicates a more serious problem, ram or motherboard.
