Dear Gurus,
Andrew suggests the reason my 2300 won't boot from start up discs
is because I have a bad floppy drive. I may have misled everybody. My 2300
works fine. I'm just trying to make a boot disk for when it fails. I can
load the Norton start up floppy and use disk doctor to check my disc.
(A-OK). I just can't use Mr. norton or the 7.5 boot disc to start the
machine - nor can I get either to show up on the startup disc control
panel. I tried starting w the mouse disconnected. First time the machine
almost started then announced a system crash "error 41" and next time it
just kicked the floppy out w/o getting anywhere.

My money's on a bad floppy. By any chance can you check out the drive? That
is, will the 2300 boot enough to allow you to ascertain the floppy is good?
Had an old Perf. 475 that would do the same thing on occasion...turned out
the floppy was loaded with dust and dirt. A good cleaning might help (canned
air, blow out any dust/hairballs/small creatures living in the drive.... do
NOT scrub the heads with anything except a Qtip and alcohol....VERY light
pressure or the heads are FUBAR).
If the floppy is good, try physically unplugging the HD in the 2300 and see
if it will boot off the floppy then.
HTH!
Andrew
