heh... she's an attorney. Sometimes conversations with her are akin to being cross-examined. =) >my "fanaticism" isn't any more fanatic than your >"fanaticism"--I haven't even painted mine yet! <snip> BUT, if anyone >else re-reads your lines above, it certainly sounds sufficiently >devoted (if we don't impute "fanaticism" to anyone ;-)--it's >objectively way beyond what a normal user des to their computer. heh... If some bozo physically breaks it, well that need not be covered. > > * I knew it would last at least a year (backed by a warrantee) >--tougher by prior two points (but possible if install risk minimized) The question then becomes, who does the installation? I know for a fact that I have been inside a 2400c far more times than most 'certified' Apple repair techs... so I would rather trust myself than somebody else frankly. > >These points have to be negotiated. Certainly. >Actually I'm surprised that a server farm and Unix pro >like you hasn't gone over to OS X already. Well, to be honest I was a *very* early adopter. In January 1997, I brought my old NeXTStation turbo out of retirement, and ran it as my own personal Internet server (until Apple's Y2K patch for NeXTstep 3.3 completely overwrote my totally tweaked sendmail 9 install with sendmail 5.5!!!) I also was an early adopter of OS X Server version 1. Which I started running on the first week it shipped... and stuck with it even though Apple never allowed us early adopters to buy any upgrades at anything other than full price(!). We still run it for some WebObjects clients, and one of our QTSS boxes. WE are slowly upgrading some OS 9 servers to X as well. Almost all of my staff run X on their desktops. I haven't made the switch because of two reasons: 1. My 2400c. 2. I have ben waiting seemingly forever for about 4 of the apps I use everyday, all day, to be ported. #1 will be there for as long as I keep the pb. But like I said if enough money magically arrives in my wallet I will probably buy a new pb and put the green 2400c into semi-retirement. #2 is tantalizingly close. As for the server farm... well remember that we are a production/deployment environment and the stuff that runs in our datacenter is the result of months, sometimes years of development work. Given that the native OS X development tools have only really arrived in the past year, (other than the older NeXT technologies) it will be a while before we see a huge demand from clients for OS X Server. The trickle will develop into a flood later this year. --chuck goolsbee geek wrangler, digital.forest inc, bothell, wa <http://www.forest.net> list mom, mac-mgrs mailing list... <http://www.mac-mgrs.org> ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
