If you are rebuilding a type-II or type-III you need a 4/5 A cell (that's single A). If you rebuild a type-I I THINK it may take a plain old AA (that's double A, and not 4/5 size). All the cells need to be "solder tab" cells, not button top or even flat top. I would not bet my life on what I have just stated, but I would be willing to perhaps bet someone else's life on it.
