Hmm, I couldn't say what would happen if you tried to use regular alkaline 
batteries. I doubt they'd last long since they don't have anything close to 
the energy storage of the stock batteries.

Yes, recharging them would be a bad thing. Not sure if they'd literally 
blow up. What might be interesting, since I think it's the same voltage, 
would be to build an external pack that plugged into the regular power 
port. You could even use bigger batteries with more storage capacity like Ds.
