I tried the 500MHz version for several weeks. It's a nice little machine, but nowhere as sturdy as the 2400c, and it's too slow for MacOS X mainly due to the tiny processor cache. If you haven't invested heavily in your 2400 and you don't transfer lots of digital photos from a memory card to the PowerBook on a regular basis, migrating to a new iBook may make sense. But be prepared to stay with MacOS 9 as your main system: the iBook is not a practical MacOS X machine and processor upgrades are unlikely. When the iBook sports a faster g3 or a g4 and USB 2.0 to transfer digital photos the switch will certainly make more sense. In my case, I've decided against it. What's more, I've already got hold of another 2400c nobody here wants (lucky me, those people behave like spoilt children sometimes), and I'm not letting go. My personal 2400c went to upgrade heaven long ago, g3 and all, it's more stable than the iBook or any mac I've ever owned, it can hold its own against any of the USB iBooks, and hopefully it will outperform them eventually if Sonnet is willing to help. All our desktops are on MacOS X 10.1.3 now, but the great beautiful Comet is bound to be my machine of choice to run legacy sofware, and my PowerBook on the road for some more years yet. -- Jose Antonio Alvarez Dios e-mail addresses: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] e-fax number (in the USA, handles voicemail too) 1 (419) 828-9794 fax number (in Spain) 34981597054 ----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
