For what it's worth, I retrofitted my 2300 with a B&W screen so I could use it out in the sun. I turn off the back light and use it in "reflected" mode. Works well enough. Brighter the sunlight, the better. (Also works using overhead light in trains & airplanes, thus saving a little battery power.)
