I was very happy to receive five replies to my questions. All the instructions on disassembling the computer will be useful when I install the modem.
However, I was able to correct the space bar problem (it required a lot of pressure) on the 2300 without opening the case. The solution was simple though quite mysterious. The suggestion to first lift off the key cap was on the money, as was the suggestion to compare the 2300 to the 210 (which was working properly). The seller of the machine had told me that the space bar had been sticking in the down position but he had fixed it. Turns out he had fixed it by inserting a spring under the space bar. I would not have recognized this as a jerry-rigged fix had I not compared it to the 210. When I removed the spring, the space bar did indeed stick in the down position. Yet careful examination revealed nothing different from the 210. I decided to remove the retaining wire and without it the space bar worked. I then re-installed the retaining wire and it still worked! I have no idea why. Thanks to all of you. Herb Goodfriend ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
