I have to review CADD files, sometimes in AutoCad emulation in VPC so the
big screen and CPU speed are helpful. But I procrastinated and missed my
free upgrade to VPC 5.x w/Connectix. :-(
Now, against my previous statements, I might actually do some Photoshop on
the road. The 667 IS the best deal, no question.

BTW, I picked up a padded ripstop nylon bag (Sumdex) sold at MicroCenter
(about $35.00). The main compartment holds some papers and the G4 fine, the
outside pocket is a perfect fit for the 2400.

I already managed that in the 1st week too. PMO. I hate having to be so
conscious and deliberate in holding/handling this damn Ti; even pivoting to
go up stairs or pass someone in a corridor, just to avoid scraping it on the
wall or gouging it by bumping a handrail. (Check out O'Grady's
www.powerpage.org and you'll see bubbling/flaking paint jobs).

I might let one or two (of five) go. "Geek magnet" is the word! On the 12hr
direct flight over from Zurich to LA, to my amazement, people in front back
and side brought out their ("aircraft carrier" sized) Ti's, while my
daughter and I whipped out our altogether more elegant 2400s. Guess what the
conversation revolved around...

I've been thinking maybe I should drop the housing into solvent, remove the
paint and let the shell look like a Russian titanium hulled submarine. The
delicate faux anodized look of titanium colored paint on titanium is a big
turn off. Won't do much for resale value, though...

My purchase was spur of the moment the day before. I was so busy hauling my
daughter around the east/west coasts of USA looking at colleges/universities
and dealing with some other urgent issues, I only got around to thinking
about it the evening before. I knew Apple upped the screen rez and restored
a serious 1mb cache (a big gripe of mine), got fan noise/heat down--and I'd
just gotten a tri-band GSM /Bluetooth phone to use in the USA, so it seemed
propitious. Macconnection were the only guys who could guarantee overnight
be by a certain time the next day. I'm against cables when technology allows
its elimination, so having to carry a USB sync cable caught between missing
IrDA and vaporware Bluetooth seems 2 steps back!

I already registered a case number w/Apple so I can holler at them when my
screen hinges break. The metal rods are set into overtight nylon/delrin
bushings so even micro-jetting w/Liquid Wrench hasn't done anything.

It was a totally DUMB assumption on my part in hoping Apple might have
resolved this longstanding issue (since Lombard?) by now in Rev.C--just
thickening the screen bezel 0.8mm would do it fer crissakes!!! (and not
compromise the very superficially painted Titanium aesthetics). Frankly
unpainted stainless steel would be much better.

Chuck, for you that's a very natural and painless evolution. I have far too
many high powered, costly apps that have yet to be expensively migrated to
OS X, so my transition will be slow. I guess I feel like I have to master
the unix command line interface, too. Then there's all this about certain
apps still running much slower in OS X, but the OS X interface is really
beautifully done. Let's see what Jaguar brings.
