I've been using a SCSI DVD-RAM drive for Retrospect backups of a number of different Macs including the 2400c, but slow write speeds have led me to consider purchasing a firewire version to use instead. I'd be connecting through a RATOC FW PC Card to the Comet. Looking into this online, I found a consensus that in general, mfg's optimistic specs on write rates are not to be taken seriously. Great. Anyway, I've decided on a Panasonic if I go this route.
How much of a % improvement in reading do you think I should reasonably expect, compared to using the SCSI device? Your experieced input's much appreciated.
