Hey Jake, > Rob, thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, I don't have an external drive, > don't even have a SCSI mac to do SCSI-Disk-Mode anymore.
Yeah this is the reason to keep some old stuff lying around. It's hard to bring up a unhappy machine when you don't have other good ones around to work with it. Do you live in San Francisco? > Disassemblying the 2400 will be my last resort. On the older duos like I have you only have to remove the keyboard to unplug the internal drive from the mother board. This is just done long enough to boot off the other drive, set the startup disk, and then you can reconnect the internal. Sometimes when you do this you have to reboot a couple of times before it boots for the external. I'm not sure why this is. > I finally managed to get it to boot to OpenFirmware, Hey how do you do this? > anyone here remember the syntax to boot from a different partition? The only trick I know for doing this is by re-blessing a different Finder. I don't think you can boot off of a 2nd partition. But I could be wrong on this. I don't generally partition my drives. To re-bless an old/ different Finder. Take the Finder file out of the current System folder. I tend to place it on the desktop. Double click on the Finder file that you want to re-bless (the other one - not the one you just put on the desktop). A dialog box will come up and tell you tha what you are doing is pointless. Pay no attention to this little man. Then close the window for this System folder. The System folder should now have the Mac icon on the folder and the current System folder should not. Then replace the current Finder file so that it doesn't get lost. Once you get into OS9 there is no longer a need for these shenanigans as the new startup disk lets you select which system to boot from. This is thanks to OSX. You might want to try taking the new Startup disk app and using it with an older system. It should work. Jya matana, -Rob- ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
