Regarding younkin's query v/v the external modem.

a) I have heard of modems working better out of the PRINTER port vs.
the Modem port on the docked 2300. You may need to disable appletalk
to switch ports?

b) Also recall that having Appletalk active seemed to bog things down
under one OS version.

c) I joined this list seeking resolution of a similar problem. Do
manage to connect, and establish mail and web funcionality, but when
any significant amount of data needs to be transferred such as an
attachment or web page with large components, the throughput slows to
a crawl and stops, resulting in timeouts, incomplete downloads and so
forth.

Despite several queries and long term lurking, I am led to wonder if
my two 2300's have some kind of hardware damage (one has an internal
modem, the other one doesn't). I fondly remember that I managed to
have an external 56k modem humming along under some magical
combination of OS version and settings that resulted in quite decent
performance compared to the internal global village or apple express
modem. Regrettably upgraded OS and lost the performance. I'll be
comparing this "fond memory" to a hookup that I may set up in the
future via Ethernet - should be better, given the limitations of the
serial ports.

Good luck
F.
