I'm bad at clipping quotes, so I'll summarize instead: John Acuff <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes about: Using a non-apple cd drive.
I reply: Well, I don't know of any way of getting a non-apple cd drive to *boot,* but there are 3rd party extensions that let you use the drive. Toast came with one, and I think FWB had one. There may be a Resedit modification to get the standard cd extension to work too, I don't know. SCSI mode is something neat about Mac laptops-- most can be hooked up to other computers and accessed like disks, with the correct cable. They're 30 pins (instead of 29 pins on a simple cable), and they usually have a switch for normal mode (hooking up a cd) or SCSI disk mode (connecting to another computer). To make sure the scsi cable is connected correctly, I think Drive Setup will see non-apple rom drives (and just show that they're there). If not, Tattletech, System Profiler, and many other programs will show what's on the SCSI chain. -- Dana [EMAIL PROTECTED] ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
