Dave, thanks much for the tip about Battery Plus. When connected to AC power (a must) it causes theNow I have another question: What is the deal with
Batttery Recondition, anyway. These batteries are
NiMH, which do not have memories like NiCad's. So why
have this program? Now that it is clear that
intellectually I do not believe that this program has
any beneficial effect, you know I darn-well tried it!

etc.)
batteries to do a deep discharge and then a charge.
I don't know whey NIMH have memory, but they sure
seem to. It does have an effect, but it depends on the
battery and it depends on how far gone it is. When I
did repeated conditionings to my two old type IIIs,
I got one about back to it's original charge level, and
the other one remained useless.
First you MUST have it connected with the AC adapter
So here is my question (finally), what is
suppossed to happen when you run Battery Recondition?
My screen started flickering on and off, then snow,
then all kinds of weird spooky stuff on the screen.
The speaker was emiting a sad little death rattle, and
the cursor was frozen - and command-period did
nothing. If this is all normal, great, maybe I can
save my battery - But the way the computer reacted
just felt bad.
because the battery is going to be discharged deeply.
What should happen is you get a white screen with a little
battery icon moving around like a screen saver. The program
causes the battery to discharge as far as it can, then charges
it. When I did it with the battery I ultimately improved, the
first time it only took 15 minutes. The second time it took
over half an hour, the third time maybe 1 hours, etc. I don't
remember how far it got but eventually it was about 1.5
hours or a little more.
incidentally
Incedentally (I have no idea how to spell that),
It was some person on the list in the far east I think who
does anyone want to give me a tip on dismantalling and
repairing the battery? If it is dead anyway, I can't
go wrong!
said he had problems getting batteries so he was taking
them apart and replacing their innards. I'm sure Apple
