Just to add my two cents: I regularly do very strange things with SCSI that
would scare the most hearty Mac user. Like hot swapping all the time, turning
devices on and off in the chain without powering down, interrupting one Mac and
accessing its internal SCSI devices via a SCSI chain connected to an active
Mac, etc. The worst I've ever had happen is a system freeze. This does not mean
that my days aren't numbered. In fact, I've become much more cautious in my old
age as I believe I have been lucky. But to look at my track record, one could
make a pretty good argument for hot swapping SCSI. I think the bottom line is
that if Apple doesn't support it, it's probably best not to do. As for power
connectors, even they are not immune. Sometimes, my Duo will not correctly
register the time remaining if I pull or insert the power cable during sleep or
otherwise.
