Yep!!! My 5300cs' serial port fried, because I accidentally yank the serial
cable while apple talk is on. I use PowerBooks for MIDI, so without a
working serial port it is equal to garbage. Lucky for me I could found
someone willing to buy the 5300cs from me, at fire sale price of course!!
Always Shut DOWN!! Or at least put it to sleep for less dangerous
peripherals like modem or printer, but for ADB devices, SCSI, expansion
bays, you better shut it down first before making connect/disconnect
attempt.
Oh BTW, PCMCIA cards really is hot swappable ( or not?? )
