Whatever you end up doing, I'd avoid the addonics cd-rom drive. It is cheaper, and has an ok design, but it seemed very cheap to me. I originally bought an addonics drive, and the main reason I bought it is because it was cheap. However, it was very noisy, and also the slightest shock to it, or moving it at all, caused the cd inside to become lose. I rerturned it and bought the Port 24x cd-rom (which toshiba recommends for the portege)....it was more expensive (almost twice as much), but it was an even sleeker design and was much sturdier.....it had a sturdier feel to it, was quieter, and no amount of shaking, etc. caused the cd to become unseated.
