Word and other Microsoft "harm the OS" by installing a ton of extra crap
on your computer (mainly in the Extensions folder). Even worse, Microsoft
installers oftentimes install over versions of extensions (their own, and
others, such as Apple's) with OLDER versions. Worst of all, outdated
extensions are sometimes installed, causing major problems with the OS
(i.e. - making the computer unbootable w/ extensions enabled).
I've also had non-eventful experiences with Microsoft installers as well,
but I am VERY wary to trust all the junk they throw into your system
folder (I disable as much of it as possible).
