Glad to hear that it really is possible to IR hotsync a 2400 and a Palm
V. Although I regularly irDA my 2400 and an original imac and hotsync my
2400 and my palm through the HotSyc cradle and the seriel port I have
continually fail to IrSync. I am running Mac OS 8.6, Palm desktop for
Mac 2.5 and Palm OS 3.3. All the necessary files are present and active.

I am using the following downloaded directions:

* Make sure you are using the lastest versions of software: Palm OS
3.3, Mac OS 8.6 and Palm Desktop for Mac 2.5.

*Go to Control Panels>Infrared and make sure you have IrDa selected.

*Make sure AppleTalk isn't using Infared.

*In the HotSync Setup (HotSync Manager>HotSync>Set up),click on the
serial port settings tab and select Infared port for Local Setup.

*Make sure Hot Sync is enabled in the HotSync Controls tab.

*On your Palm, launch the HotSync app, select IrComm for the port, and
click on the big HotSync button.

*Point your Palm's Infared port at your PowerBook's Infrared port, making
sure they're at least a few inches away from each other

*HotSyncingt should start within a few seconds.

Although the 2400's Infrared control panel shows the 2400 is connected to
the Palm the Palm screen continues read "connecting with the desktop
using IR to a PC/Handheld" and then "the connection between your handheld
computer and the desktop computer could not be established."

I have tried every combination I can think still the IR HotSync fails.
Any suggestions or observations would be appreciated. I'm out of options.
