This is a long shot, but are they set to the same speed? (On the Powerbook,
check Serial Port Settings in HotSync Software Setup. On the Palm, check
Hotsync -> Connection Setup -> IR to ... -> Edit -> Details.)
For what it's worth, I have my Powerbook set to "As fast as possible" and
my Palm (IIIx) set to 115,200 bps with Automatic flow control.
