I have both 8.1 and 8.6 on my 2300 (in separate partitions). My
installation of 8.1 uses 12.2 M and is still being used because one
application, which I choose not to upgrade at this time, is not 8.6
compatible. My installation of 8.6 uses 15.1 M. I find 8.6 to be a little
snappier (not slower). In addition, I get much better power management
(battery life increases by at least 20 minutes with 8.6) and the first
interation of Sherlock. I am very happy with 8.6 as an operating system.
[Note - 8.6 has a known font corruption problem, but Apple has a fix that
can be downloaded from their site and installed].
