After much thought I moved from my Duo 230 to a PB5300ce. I have kept my
subscription to the Duolist Digest however. The PB5300 I believe is very
similar in preformance to a Duo 2300 and so I thought I would comment on
this.

I installed 8.1 on the 5300 and then upgraded that to 8.6, mainly because
I had enough memory and the hardware would run it. It was very slow to
boot, seemed to require constant access to the hard drive and overall
just seemed sluggish. I finally decided to downgrade the OS to 7.6.1 just
to see how well the 5300 would run.

I still miss a couple of the bells and whistles, but overall it was the
best software I have installed in a while. The machine boots in 1/3 the
time, and actually seems rather peppy. The hard drive actually shut off
and stay off for a long period of time. Plus with 7.6 I can actually set
up an effective ram disk, and not only get much faster preformance, but
really great battery life as well.

Personally I would stick with 7.6.1, if the Duo 2300 preforms like the
PB5300 there is little to be gained by an upgrade.
