Follow-up Comment #3, patch #6687 (project duplicity):
I think your idea is good and will fix a fair number of problems that crop up
due to huge lists being returned that cause timeouts and other problems. I
would fully support moving the structure up a level, perhaps as a wrapper to
the backend process itself.
The only real downside I see is that there is an upper filename length limit
that a few folks are running into. Its a tar limit, not a filesystem limit,
so we would still need to make this optional to accommodate that issue.
