Hmmm, ... I think I got the point... finally. ;-)

The patch ist not needed to play large files (that works already!), but it's 
needed to seek in large files (for example positioning via -sb switch... just 
got an error message from mplayer... ;-))!

It's not a lot of work if you supply them a diff-file... ;-)

and it seems to handle the problem with just a few changed
lines in some .h files of the mingw32 runtime library...

What about the "--enable-runtime-cpudetection" switch from michaels last post?
That way you have the optimum for every CPU...

Meanwhile I'll try the mplayer binaries from the side i mentioned above... ;-)
