Yes, but in case of a 16:9 frame they have to be added by the 
DVD-Player if connected to a 4:3 TV, or not? At least with my TV 
which can't handle 16:9... 

For instance, Sven's 4:3 TV can and so it is able to make use of the full 576 
lines resolution whereas I (better my DVD-player/Sat-receiver) has to 
downscale them to 432 video lines and add 2x72 line black before sending to 
the TV. OK, Actually it seems to add about 80 lines above and 64 below the 
true video frame... but that's another story...;-)
