I use the PW-1, DX4WIN, and an IC756 PRO at two different locations. Ignore Icom's advice and ignore DX4WIN's advice.
1. Set the CI-V speed on the 756 (or PRO or whatever) to 9600. "Automatic" is almost certainly a problem. 2. Set the 756-whatever to TRANSCEIVE. 3. Do the setup procedure on the PW-1 so that it will track with the transceiver. Use the default CI-V settings on the PW-1. 4. Setup DX4WIN to 9600 baud and the correct 756-whatever CI-V address. 5. Plug the 756/PW-1 combination into the computer. 6. Enjoy I have been using this combination for more than two years. The only problem is that occasionally the PW-1 and DX4WIN will interrogate the transceiver at the same time and you'll get some relay chatter on the PW-1. I have never noticed any sensitivity regarding which of the three devices is turned on first. I am absolutely convinced that the "AUTOMATIC" speed setting on the various CI-V interfaces (computer and 756) is a problem. Also note that while 19.2kb might seem attractive for the CI-V speed, many of the older CI-V interface designs use large bypass capacitors on the RS232 side and may not perform reliably at 19.2kb. In fact, some of those with .01 uf bypasses on the CI-V and RS232 lines won't even work reliably at 9600 baud! 73, Mike WA0SXV
