I started this thread so I'll chime in a bit more. It seems to me that all the responders so far (including Rapidan thru some private emails) have agreed that processing pre 1975 CW confirmations is a problem with DX4WIN. Some suggestions have been offered to circumvent the problem but all suggestions have required some manual manipulation either with the data itself or the DXCC reports or both. Since this is a known deficiency might it be better to develop some ways to change the DX4WIN internals such that no manipulation is necessary?
I am not the DX4WIN internals person but it seems to me that from a user viewpoint there may be at least a couple of solutions. 1. Provide automatic knowledge of the CW DXCC rules via the implementation of an option in the Preferences file. If that is too complex or not possible to implement then. 2. Enhance the Selection filter so that it would be sensitive not only to the CW DXCC start date but also to mode such that pre 1975 CW confirmations would not be eligible for MODE but these very same confirmations would be eligible for MIXED and BAND. This filter could be set as needed and prior to printing of any DXCC reports. The appropriate Subm flags should also be correctly set when the Submissions report is run. Perhaps others may have additional suggestions as to how to solve the pre 1975 problem but let's encourage Rapidan to resolve the problem rather than develop work arounds. Work arounds seem out of place with a product as sophisticated as DX4WIN. Going further, rather than marking it invalid, change the mode from CW to SSB or some other phone mode. 73 - Jim AD1C -- Jim Reisert AD1C, 7 Charlemont Court, North Chelmsford, MA 01863 USA +978-251-9933, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, http://www.ad1c.us
