John I think it is working ok. You are correct that the grayed boxes follow the packet spots but I think you will find that once you start to enter a call into the callsign box the next time the radio is polled the grayed entries will match the radio and remain correct until you enter the QSO and have an empty callsign box again.
What could cause a problem, and I haven't tested this is if your polling rate to the radio is very long and you can manage to type a call in and hit enter before the next radio poll then perhaps you could log a qso with the packet spot info in the band/mode box. This could be one of two things. One, the poll rate is set too long in which case shorten up the time interval so that you cannot do physically do a log entry without the correct information.
