The problem is CI-V collision detection as implemented assumes no data loss other than via collision. This assumption can break down in there are hardware issues... If Paul "followed the book" on CI-V protocol this it might explain the problem. I suspect some programs have added some additional error checking to get around this issue. When things settle down we might get Paul's thoughts on this... but right now I suspect he has his hands full. One thing you might try, Rick, is CI-V commander. You can download it from http://www.dxlabsuite.com/commander/ It has a very handy trace feature as well as being absolutely solid communicating with Icom radios. It's a great troubleshooting tool.
