Some of the older Icoms won't work with the cheap CT-17 substitutes that 
are not using RS232 levels. If it's a CT-17 or anything using a MAX232 
chip it should work fine. I used 9600 baud, 1 stop bit and a 1000ms 
polling rate with 4 retries for years. Don't try polling too fast, the 
older rigs can't keep up.

How are you interfacing the 781 with your computer?
