Not sure if this might help or be a red herring but I was almost about to send a sorry it doesn't work.
Win7 here. The Microsoft run-time library was not on the computer. My first attempt at installing the Microsoft run-time library failed, I knew it failed because it did not complete. It was however now in the list of programs on the computer so I uninstalled it, rebooted the computer and with no other programs running ran the install again, this time it completed and now v9 of Jim's updater runs fine. I have also installed Microsoft run-time library and v9 of Jim's updater on an old XP laptop and it all works fine there too. So am wondering if the first failed attempt installing Microsoft run-time library was because I had other programs running on my computer. Certainly after the reboot and on an idle computer it installed without a problem and that is all I did different.
