Jim,

I am running Windows XP Pro; I only have one HOSTS file installed (not
counting the one that is located in the Dxbase folder).

My HOSTS file that Dxbase uses is located in the Windows directory
string listed below.

I am not too familiar with XP Home, and do not know the Windows
directory structure in relationship to the XP Pro version.

Tom,

I converted my PC from 98SE to XP Home. I still find my hosts file in
the Windows folder as well as the one you mention. Is the one in the
Windows folder now unused?

Tom,

Make sure that you are modifying the HOSTS file that is located in the
Windows directory. This is the HOSTS file that Dxbase looks at; not the
one provided in the Dxbase directory.

For a Windows XP machine the Hosts file is located at
c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc (assuming that you installed Windows XP
on the 'C' drive).

The HOSTS file that Dxbase provides in its directory is there to list
possible internet clusters that you can use in the operating system's
HOSTS file.

Hope this helps.

Subject: [DXBase] HOST File Modification

I need to modify my HOST file since the Telnet changed IP address. When
I use my Note Pad text editor to change the IP address, the new address
is not showing up under user options. Restarting the computer had no
effect. When I go back and look at the HOST file it reflects the changes
but they are not showing up under user options. I am not doing
something correct and would appreciate some assistance.
