Maybe I can help clear up this confusion. When DXBase is installed, it looks to see if you already have a Host file. Some modems, or IRC programs use such a file.
If DXBase DOES NOT find an existing Host file, it then installs the one that is included with DXBase. This is so that it does not overwrite any important connection parameters you may be using. It also installs a copy into the DXBase directory so that you can use it to copy/past cluster addresses that you may wish to use. So if you do not already have Telnet Cluster addresses in your Host file that you wish to use, you must copy them into the previously existing file. The best way to do this is by using the Modify Host File feature which can be found in the File menu option. The exact location of the Host file depends on your OS. I'm using WIN XP and mine is C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\etc One more important item. If you use an editor to create or copy cluster info into, remember that the file does not have a suffix. For instance, Notepad would want to save it as Host.txt. Use rename to delete the .txt if this happens. ----- Original Message ----- From: "RM" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "'Jim McDonald'" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, February 21, 2003 7:22 AM Subject: RE: [DXBase] HOST File Modification > Jim, > > I am running Windows XP Pro; I only have one HOSTS file installed (not > counting the one that is located in the Dxbase folder). > > My HOSTS file that Dxbase uses is located in the Windows directory > string listed below. > > I am not too familiar with XP Home, and do not know the Windows > directory structure in relationship to the XP Pro version. > > > Ron .......
