My point is that if a DX station is signing /P because the country he is operating in requires it then it is a part of his call sign. I worked LU8DWR/D and also LU8DWR the /D was required by his country for example. I agree that the two slashes are a problem for DXBase to handle but if it required by his license it is a part of his call sign. Here in the continental USA we no longer have call areas and personally I was sorry to see this implemented by the FCC.

You see when you go portable to a location outside your calling area you are already a portable operation. EXAMPLE: If you go to the 8th call area you would sign WA4OYH/8 , on a phone contact you would say WA4OYH portable 8. So SV5/DJ5AA/P should sign his call DJ5AA portable SV5 and the log entry should say DJ5AA/SV5 or SV5/DJ5AA You can operate portable and just be a portable operation and sign WA4OYH/p and you can make that entry into your log with no problems. This practice has been around for the 40 years I have been interested in Amateur radio I hope this answers your confusion. 73 de Jim K2SNJ -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Bill Nowicki [WA4OYH] Sent: Tuesday, June 03, 2003 11:26 AM To: DXBase Reflector Subject: RE: [DXBase] WPX Prefix handling logic The /P could be very important if the DX station keeps separate logs for each call he uses. It would not be good to have a card returned "not in log" because of a missing /P. It is a never ending task for DXBase to keep up with all the changes in call signs over the world, but portable operations have been with us for a long time and handling them should be addressed by the developers of DXBase. 73 Bill WA4OYH -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Jim Preston Sent: Tuesday, June 03, 2003 9:22 AM To: DXBase Reflector Subject: Re: [DXBase] WPX Prefix handling logic The /P is not part of the call. While it might be required by the country in question (or not, as the case might be), it is not necessary to include it in your log. Leave off the /P and all will be well. 73, Jim N6VH > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Gintaras Sakenas LY2KW" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Friday, May 30, 2003 7:21 AM > Subject: [DXBase] WPX Prefix handling logic > > > >>Is it just me?
