Thanks, Ok on the links to the maps and the counties. I should have said that DXB does not seem to have the counties. If I remember correctly DXB is only giving me 4 choices for counties in Alaska - that too me look like areas. Nothing at all in DXB matches the Counties I have found for Alaska on the WWW.
So for me the mystery still remains. Oh yah! The variations on counties, the one I run across all the time from the LoTW downloads is ST. for SAINT. 73 Eric. -----Original Message----- From: FireBrick Sent: December 12, 2005 9:38 AM This comes up now and then Eric. It seems that the cold up there effects them differently. So they spell, call, and think they live in areas other than the official. Maybe these maps will help. http://county-map.digital-topo-maps.com/alaska.shtml http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/maps/alaska_map.html The one that frequently causes problems is 'Fairbanks North Star' Lots of frozen Alaskans abbreviate it as North Star...to prevent their fingers from stiffening while typing. I seem to remember that Alaskans don't call them counties per se. Valdez-Cordova is usually written with a hyphen. Unfortunately there isn't error checking in LoTW to pick up these variances. Consequently if they don't match the DXBase correct written names, they don't give credit. You are aware that you can edit the lotw download file to correct the errors and then re-import it...that should give you credit. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Eric - VE3GSI" Hello U.S. County Experts, I just upload my LoTW info and received a County error for Valdez Cordova in Alaska. In the DXB County dropdown list the only counties showing seem to be areas. When I check on the internet, to the uninitiated there does seem to be counties in Alaska, so I guess the short question is; what gives? 73 Eric - VE3GSI
