Jack,

I use the label function all the time and love it. Unfortunately for some
of us the software is too flexible..meaning it ends up being too
complicated. I had to get help to do mine and I love it. I agree with you
that everybody wants everything for every possibility. That makes an
impossible job for the programmer. Sometimes I wish that all of us users
would decide that we don't need some of the stuff we clamber for.

The fact is that there are many possibilities already. I am thinking about
switching from the one that prints directly on the spaces on my card and
having new cards printed with a cool picture on one side with my general
information and using the 20X QSO card format that is provided so that I can
print everything on the back side of the cards. I would save a lot of cards
so that I can send JA1xxx one card for all the QSOs at once. You have
provided that capability without me knowing how to do anything!

Aaahhh, if only it was as simple as you suggest... life would be good. But,

the reality is that for nearly every single user of DXbase, there will be a
different belief in how a label should appear. Let's just say if there were

5000 DXbase users, you can almost bet there will be 5000 different requests
for label format. So, the developer's issue is how can the needs of all be
best met. Thus, we begin with a label module capable of allowing the user
to apply their own formatting.... fonts, field positions, show this data but

not that, thousands of different label sizes to allow, and the list goes on
and on. The capability to accomodate nearly any need is there but like so
many things in life, to get the benefit, you must inject a little effort
yourself. And for those who are unwilling to apply their own efforts, there

are hundreds of default label formats, sizes, and so forth from which to
pick. Almost "plug and play" if you will... I'm always surprised when I
see posts that emphatically claim the software "won't" do this or that, when

I know full well the statement is just not true. Believe me, it keeps me
laughing and so I suppose it's keeping me young since laughter has been
shown to reduce stress. I guess one man's hassel, is another mans
happiness.
