السلام عليكم
Shehanda,
I'm sorry to say the advice you received about trying to eat excessive amounts
of chocolate and mahshi is wrong. As a diabetic you certainly have to limit
your intake of simple sugars such as chocolate because this immidiately causes
a spike in your blood sugar levels. I have gone through this as well, I
initially weighed 90 Kg and after becoming a type 1 diabetic weighed 60. Over
the past two years I have managed to gain 10 kilograms; so keep in mind it
isn't likely that you will be able to put on a lot of weight immidiately.
However, the most important thing in regards to weight gain is monitoring your
blood-sugar levels. As long as your levels are in range your body will be
functioning normally and you will be able to put on weight. The issue arises
when you aren't monitoring your blood sugar levels as high blood sugar levels
cause your body to utilize lipids and amino acids to form of energy rather than
glucose, in turn causing your body fat and muscle to break down. On the other
hand eating more food is a good idea just make sure you increase your insulin
dosage to keep up with it(you should consult with your doctor when doing this
unless you have already become proficient at carb-counting). So definitely try
to eat more carbohydrates, not so much sugars like chocolate(keep those to a
minimum), take at least 15 minutes a day to exercise and make sure your blood
sugar levels are in range as much as possible. Remember as a diabetic you are
your own Doctor.
P.S
If you are using insulin 70/30 it may be a good idea to request a change to
novorapid(fast acting) and novolin N(12 hour slow acting) insulin if that's an
option. I personally have found it much easier to manage with these two.
Best of Luck
