not sure what caused you having to include the files seperately, did all
browsers give you that problem?

It's very strange that the opacity wouldn't change on IE5.5, as IE has had
the visual filters since IE4.

Hey Ruairi,
  I loaded your revised code an examples and had a few
problems.  
1 For some reason, I had to load the two files
individually instead of using the directory * method. 
Not sure what caused this.
2 I had to change your opacity.js code to use (is.ns6)
instead of (is.ns5) as the current snapshot version I
am using now uses this.
  Once changed, both examples ran under ns6.  Under
ie5.5, I cannot get it to change the opacity.  Do you
need to have any add-ons to IE to get the css opacity
filter working?
Looks like a fun effect widget though, look forward to
working more with it if I can get the ie version
going.
running under win98  ie5.5 and ns6.0
